Cardboard tableware
Disposable tableware made of cardboard or paper is available in numerous designs. However, there are a few things to consider when making the right choice. Which coating should the cardboard tableware have? What size and matching shape do I want? You will find the answer to this question when you know for what purpose you want to use the tableware. Coated cardboard tableware is used mainly for hot or greasy dishes, whereas uncoated cardboard tableware is particularly suitable for pastries and cakes.
What is the difference between coated and uncoated plates?
The difference between coated and uncoated paper plates is that the uncoated variety is primarily environmentally friendly, as it is made from virgin fiber and recycled materials. Coated paper plates, on the other hand, have a thin polyethylene coating on the surface.
How is paperboard tableware made?
In the production of paperboard tableware, pulp and waste paper are pressed together. The basis for the production is based on the raw material wood. Here, however, the proportion of waste paper and newly obtained pulp, also known as primary fibers, can differ. The decisive factor is the desired stability of the end product and its intended use.
Did you know?
Uncoated paper plates can be disposed of in the paper garbage can. Coated or heavily soiled paper plates, on the other hand, must be disposed of in the residual waste.
What is the difference between cardboard and paperboard?
Cardboard and paperboard have fundamentally the same components. They differ only in their basis weight. Material with a basis weight of around 600 g/m² is referred to as cardboard. Paperboard is the term used for thinner material.
What are the advantages of using cardboard tableware as opposed to conventional plastic tableware?
The advantages of disposable paperboard tableware lie primarily in the area of sustainability. It is many times more environmentally friendly than disposable plastic tableware, as disposable paperboard products are made from renewable raw materials. In addition, the cost-effective paper plates are food-safe and tasteless. This means that they do not pass on any flavors to the product. Thanks to their low weight, disposable cardboard products can be transported anywhere, even in large quantities.
